Remember Flappy Birds? The concept of the game was ridiculously simple, yet ridiculously frustrating. After the game went viral and became the top downloaded app on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, developer Dong Nguyen removed the app from both stores in Feburary 2014. The game reportedly generated $50,000 in revenue from the small ad banner shown in the app.
6 months after the removal of Flappy Bird, Dong Nguyen just released a new app earlier today, called Swing Copters. The concept is very much like Flappy Bird, including the retro style graphics, with a few twists. Instead of a bird, you fly a small guy with a propeller. Instead of being horizontal, you’re flying vertically upwards. The guy continuously flies upwards in one direction (left/right) until the screen is tapped, which then changes his direction. Furthermore, instead of just stationary pipes, there are swinging hammers.
I’ve spent the last 15 minutes playing and I still can’t get a score higher than a 2.
Because it loses originality points for being very similar in concept to the original Flappy Birds, I doubt Swing Copters can achieve the same level of popularity as Flappy Birds did. It is certainly is just as deceptively simple though.
Its free, but ad-supported, on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
What do you think of Swing Copters?
